I am so happy to say that I will be offering daytime prenatal yoga classes for July / August!!!! A special class just for those that are off for the summer or work afternoon shift. It will be Monday at Breathe, six week session beginning July 9th from 10:30am – 11:45am. I am also so happy to offer a mom and baby yoga class at Breathe in Old Walkerville! This will begin on Monday, July 9th and will be from 1:15-2:15pm. This current class is maxed out, so register well in advance.Sweetheart Diapers Baby Cafe is hosting a donation based mom and baby yoga class in Reaume Park (Peace Fountain) on Wed June 27th at 10:30am.

We’ll be collecting $10 suggested donation for an organization called Shanti Uganda. Please register for this class through Sweetheart Diapers 519-800-3963 .

Birth Story from a Four-time Mom

So I am very happy to say that I am an auntie for the fourth time! My sister had her fourth baby and first boy on Friday June 1st! Every birth is different and none of hers have been the same. I will share her story, since having 4 kids under 5 does not leave a lot of time.

On Monday, she began to have some pretty good contractions….the one’s where she was quite certain they were not Braxton-Hicks. These lasted most of the day and were becoming intense enough that she would need to stop what she was doing and breathe through them. They were quite irregular…maybe every 8 minutes, then 20, then 30, then 5 and were not getting any more intense. I spoke with her that evening and she was stating her frustration that things were not picking up. Totally understandable! She was tired, and had two sick children as well as a sick husband. Who has the time to have a baby with all of that going on? I spoke to her about living in the moment and to let go of whatever expectations she had of what this labour will be like. Her last one was fast and furious and I think she was a little scared of a repeat experience. She agreed and went to listen to her hypnobirthing CD. Throughout the next few days, her contractions would be inconsistent all day long….then she would sleep at night. All the while, just going about her daily routine. Finally, early Thursday morning (yup about 3 days later) she woke up and thought…”this is it!” She had to get out of bed and walk around the house to manage the contractions. Finally at 5am, her hubby was awoken and the in-law’s called to come over and take care of the kids. This continued throughout the day, contractions are steady 8 minutes apart but not getting closer. At 1pm…they stop again! Taking advantage of the time off of the contractions, she took a nap. Still frustrated and perhaps a little annoyed. That night, 8pm, still nothing. Time for bed! Lisa slept for a good 5-6 hours….woke up at 1am. This time, it’s really the real thing! Kids were asleep, midwife was called and here we go…time to have a baby! Thankfully, Lisa had nice breaks in between contractions, she handled it like a champ. At 5:20am Friday morning, a little boy was born, at home, in water with no interventions. Yippee!!!! The girls were up now and wanted to meet their little baby brother. Such a happy day. Along with the midwife was a student who happened to be a Labour and Delivery nurse for 13 years. She said that in all of her time witnessing birth, she had never experienced a mom with such grace and ease in birth. She said that she wished she could video tape it and show it to her clients so they would see there is no reason to be afraid. What a wonderful compliment! Way to go sis on your third successful water birth!

This story really shows how peaceful and normal birth can be when the mom let’s go of expectations and just allows her body to do what it needs to. Sometimes when contractions stop it is a blessing as it gives the mom a little break. That nice 5-6 hour sleep definitely recharged Lisa’s energy helping her to cope with the contractions. Please remember this when you think of your upcoming birth.
